Jeremy Wise

Head Volleyball Coach
William Penn University
Oskaloosa, IA
Jeremy Wise enters his second year as head volleyball coach.

Wise led the Lady Statesmen to the program's first-ever national tournament appearance, earning a berth to the NAIA Opening Round.  The team, which finished 26-15 overall, shared the Midwest Collegiate Conference regular season crown and then claimed the MCC Tournament title.  The squad's 26 wins were the most since 1985.

Wise comes to Penn from Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio, where he was the head coach of the NAIA program for ten years from 1998 to 2007. He inherited a team that had not had a winning season in school history and had won just four games in the previous three years. Wise turned the program around immediately and led the Blue Knights to numerous postseason appearances as well as a national ranking.

His squads broke every school record, including wins, and he leaves as the winningest coach in school history with 202 wins.

Also during his tenure at Urbana, Wise guided 26 players to all-conference recognition, had five all-freshmen team honorees, and two Region IX Defensive Players of the Year. His squads succeeded academically as well as 13 individuals garnered NAIA Scholar-Athlete laurels and 22 earned academic-all conference honors.

While at Urbana, Wise honed his coaching skills by also working numerous college, high school, and Junior Olympic camps. He coached a few college all-star teams overseas as well, leading squads to gold medals at the 2003 Down Under University Games and the 2004 Youth Games, both held in Australia.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Wise also managed the Grimes Center and was an instructor in sport science, recreation, and physical education courses.

Throughout his career, Wise has earned the respect of his peers and has been asked to serve as American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Chair. He has also served as an NAIA and Region IX rater.

Before joining the Urbana staff, Wise was a facility manager of two other venues, most recently for the Columbus Chill, a hockey team in the ECHL association.

Wise graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in 1996 with a double degree in coaching and sports industry and a minor in psychology. He also received his Master's in Athletic Administration from Ohio in 1997.

Wise resides in Oskaloosa with his wife Katie and their two sons, Austin, 5, and Logan, 3.

Phil McDaniel

Head Volleyball Coach
Drake University
Des Moines, IA
Phil McDaniel completed his second season guiding the Drake volleyball program after being named the 10th women's volleyball coach at the school in 2008.

McDaniel has rekindled the Bulldog program in his first two campaigns, posting a 34-32 mark including a 22-12 ledger during the 2009 season.

The 2009 campaign was defined by numerous accomplishments including the Bulldogs qualifying for their first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament since 1998 on the strength of a 10-8 fourth-place league finish.

Drake's 22 wins were the most since the 1996 squad that posted a 24-4 mark.  The Bulldogs also registered their most home wins (11) and road victories (8) since the 1995 and 1996 campaigns, respectively.

The 12 victories for the Bulldogs in McDaniel's 2008 rookie season were deceiving on first glance as the win total was the then highest for a Bulldog team since the 1998 unit captured 13 triumphs.  It also marked the initial time any current member of the Drake team had won double-digit matches during their respective careers.

An assistant coach at South Dakota State from 2005-2007, McDaniel helped the Jackrabbits claim the 2007 Summit League title as well as a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

During his tenure in Brookings, S.D., he spearheaded recruiting efforts for the SDSU program as well as monitoring academic progress for the Jackrabbits, who were honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with its Game Plan/AVCA Team Academic Award in 2005 and 2006.

"Phil McDaniel came to Drake with significant volleyball experience, particularly in programs that built success the right way," Sandy Hatfield Clubb, Drake athletic director said. "He was part of coaching staffs at two different institutions that led their teams to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. I am thrilled that we have hired a talented and passionate coach, and a great person, to lead our women's volleyball program."

During his stint at South Dakota State, McDaniel played a part in helping lead the Jackrabbits to a 63-42 record, including the first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament appearance in school history in 2007. He helped further the development of Amy Anderson, the Summit League Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

McDaniel, 35, came to South Dakota State after spending three seasons (2002-04) as an assistant coach at New Mexico State. The Aggies were 86-15 during his tenure and claimed the Sun Belt Conference crown in each of his three campaigns while winning berths in the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and 2004.

While in Las Cruces, N.M., he coached Stevi Adams (2004 Sun Belt Conference Most Outstanding Player and 2004 AVCA South All-Region Team), Trinia Cuseo (2003 AVCA South All-Region Team and 2003 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention) and Jackie Godber (2003 Sunbelt Defensive Player of the Year and 2003 AVCA South All-Region Team).

In addition to his duties at New Mexico State, McDaniel was head coach of the Diamondback Volleyball Club in Las Cruces.

The Mt. Zion, Ill., native served as head coach at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, N.C. from 2000-02, where he was twice named as the Big East Conference 4A Coach of the Year (2000 & 2001) in directing the school to a 42-7 ledger. He also served as director of coaches for the East Carolina Junior Volleyball Club.

He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Culver-Stockton College in 1996 and a master's degree in counselor education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1998. He competed on the soccer and tennis squads while at Culver-Stockton.
